About our Company
Honeyacre Produce Co. is a family operation located in Morgan County,
Color
ado.  With plenty of sunshine, fresh air, and pure water - quality produce
has been produced for over 23 years.  Our greenhouses allow us to control
almost every aspect of the environment.  This makes it possible to grow quality
plants and produce under ideal growing conditions every day, 24 hours a day.

We are proud to grow and market our specialty – vine-ripened tomatoes.  Our
tomato plants are grown in coconut fiber and peat moss – all natural products of
the earth. From seedlings to maturity, we seek to provide an optimum growing
environment.  This includes correct plant spacing for sunlight, proper humidity,
correct minimum and maximum temperatures and plenty of fresh air.  The
irrigation system provides fresh water and a pH balance of nutrients to the
delicate root system.

Our plants are pampered with daily attention to keep the plants looking and
growing good.  After flowering, bumblebees are used for pollination.  Special
care is taken for proper vegetative and fruit pruning.

Quality, healthful produce is our number one priority.  In response to health
concerns, Honeyacre healthy produce is achieved naturally -- we do not use
any pesticide or chemical sprays on our plants or produce.   Our Integrated Pest
Management (IPM) program includes using mechanical trapping devices and
natural predators.  Environmental control is important too.  Horizontal airflow
fans keep air temperatures even and air movement helps prevent disease
problems.  The greenhouse enclosure helps keep pests out and helpful insects
in.

Honeyacre tomatoes are not harvested until they reach the peak of flavor and
color.  The green stem is left on as an indication of the freshness.  You can see
and taste the difference.   Don’t be fooled by others, ours is truly a vine ripened
tomato.

Four generations have lived on our farm.  We originally farmed the ground
where Honeyacre is located, producing traditional crops such as sugar beets,
wheat, corn, and cucumbers.  However, during the 1970’s and 1980’s, the
underground water table fell rapidly; eventually water became too scarce to
feasibly produce these traditional crops.  In order to keep the land in agriculture,
we began to search for alternative farming methods.  In 1985, we discovered a
unique vegetable growing system. From father and mother to us and our
daughters, three generations have been involved in every stage of production
from planting to distribution.

Honeyacre continues to meet new challenges with strength and integrity.  The
principles upon which we operate this business have not changed over time.
We do our best to produce a first-class product.  Our objective is reflected in
our
produce mission statement:  “We believe that customers have the right to
demand quality products, and we dedicate our efforts to fulfill that right by
producing superior produce that is healthful, chemical-free, and great tasting.”

Now It's Your Turn
The fruit of the tomato plant is very perishable.  You need to pamper your
purchase.  Here are a few tips to maintain quality from store or market to the table.

Handle with care.  Over-stacking or rough handling can cause bruising or
puncturing.

Never refrigerate!  This will convert the fruit's sugars and kill the flavor.  Keep at
room temperature out of direct sunlight.  If you do prefer to serve chilled,
refrigerate just prior to serving.  Enjoy!
